How much will Extension students interact with traditional FBA students?
It is our sincere hope that the Extension students will quickly feel as though they are an integral part of our student body. There will be many opportunities for fellowship with each other and with Academy students. The level of interaction will increase as we grow our program and implement the variety of opportunities that we have planned.
What is the dress code for Extension students?
Extension students will wear a white, short-sleeved polo type shirt with no emblem with khaki uniform style shorts or pants (no cargos); except on Chapel day, when boys will wear a white, short-sleeved button down shirt and khaki uniform-type pants and girls are asked to wear a modest dress or skirt/blouse. Belts are to be worn and students will be required to tuck in shirts. Uniform shirts may be purchased through Risse Brothers if desired. HS students will follow the student handbook at FBALions.org.
What are the discipline policies for Extension students?
The discipline policies are the same as for the full time Academy students.
Will Extension students participate in graduation ceremonies?
Currently Extension students will not take part in graduation.
Can Extension students take part in interscholastic athletic teams?
Students will be able to participate, provided they fulfill all of the necessary prerequisites and qualify under FHSSA guidelines for participation as a homeschooler: sports physical, FHSSA homeschool forms (EL7) completed and approved, and registration fees paid. FHSSA does not permit students who are enrolled in virtual school for 50% of their classes to participate as a homeschooled student. Because FBA sports teams play competitively, tryouts will be required for these teams. There are also developmental teams for many sports.
There is a separate fee for sports participation.
Will students receive a report card?
FBA will not keep records or provide report cards at this time. If you choose to have your child take part in academic testing, you will be provided with a copy of those scores and the director will be available to review these scores with you. Students who pay and sign up for individual classes (6-12th grade) will receive grades.
How will Extension families be kept “in the loop” with school activities in which we are eligible to participate?
The Homeschool Extension director will send newsletters via email highlighting upcoming events and opportunities. Sports activities are accessible through the FBA website.
What is the long term vision for the extension program?
We have many exciting ideas for the future of this program. We look forward to Extension students eventually taking part in every class that FBA offers full time students where space is available, participating in all extra-curricular classes, and even participating in high school commencement activities with the Academy. Because the Academy is committed to excellence and pursuing God’s plan for this program, we have decided to begin with a small group of families and grow the program over time. In getting in on the ground-level, you will have the opportunity to provide feedback, express your needs, and help us shape the future of the Extension program. Because we are the first Christian school in our area to pilot this type of program, we believe that we will be enhancing the homeschool experience for many families in our area. We have prayed over the families who will choose to partner with us in this ground-breaking endeavor, and we feel strongly that God will bless this ministry through you and your children if you join us.
