Letter from the Elementary Principal

Tools of the Trade!

Linda Shaw

Our school theme for 2010/2011 will focus on developing and using practical tools for life, learning, and leadership as we "build up" the body of Christ.  Our tool box contains six specific tools of the trade for accomplishing God's work of discipling the next generation.  The six Spiritual disciplines (in elementary school we refer to them as "Jesus Habits") are designed to equip children to grow and mature in their personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as they simultaneously grow in wisdom and knowledge of God.  Therefore, everything we teach and learn about in school whether in academics, athletics, or the arts has its orientation and purpose in God and His kingdom.

So what are the six "Jesus Habits" we will study this year?  Bible Study and Application, Prayer, Service, Submission, Stewardship, and Worship.  Sound familiar? If so, it's because we introduced and defined the "Jesus Habits" in the elementary school last year.  This year we will take the next step in the discipleship process to model and practice the disciplines within the framework of school, demonstrating the correlation between these habits, and our life at home, at school, and at church.

Developing Spiritual Disciplines will positively impact a child's success in school academically, socially, and physically, as we heed God's command to love the Lord god with all our heart, soul, mind and strength (Matthew 22:37).  Thank you to parents for partnering with us as we build students up in Truth, and share the love of Christ with them.  This will be a great year, filled with many new challenges and opportunities to become authentic disciples of Jesus Christ!  I pray our students will "sharpen their skills" to become instruments fit for the Master's use (II Timothy 2:21).

For the Kingdom,
