Letter from the Elementary Principal
We are "Off and Growing" in the Elementary School!

We're growing Spiritually: We started the year by introducing the new school theme “Growing Real Relationships” (I Pet.1:22). At FBA, we recognize the most important relationship is our personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ. We are also aware that God has called us to have right relationships with others in the Kingdom, including family and friends at home, at church, and at school. This year we will be learning how to initiate and build relationships in our Bible classes and at chapel.
We're growing Academically: Our academic subject focus for 09/10 in grades K-5 is our Math program. We will add two new components to our curriculum for math enrichment and math reinforcement. You will see posters of Mt. Sum-It featured in our classrooms. The posters help us track the top Math students in our school. Those student’s top math scores will represent FBA on a national level competition through the Continental Math League. Additionally, we will have an opportunity to practice basic Math computation and strategies every day in our “Mountain Math” time. These two additions, will prepare us well for standardized testing, and more importantly, will equip us for life, learning and leadership.
We are implementing a new Creation Science textbook series this year entitled Purposeful Design, published by ASCI. The title reflects the fact that God created and sustains the universe for His Divine purposes. We will be learning about the “7 C’s of Creation” from Genesis. In Creation Science labs and on field trips, we will observe God’s creation to learn more about His character and about the marvels of His created world. Our students will be well prepared to give an answer to others who may not know about or understand the Biblical account of Creation.
We're growing God-given talents and abilities: Elementary students enjoy participating in the many athletics and fine arts activities as an integral part of their daily schedule of classes. We are very excited to cheer on the first season of Lion’s football… Go Lions!!!
We're growing Christian Character-developing new "habits": As disciples of Jesus Christ, it is our desire to follow in the footsteps of our Lord and Savior… We will be searching the Scriptures to learn how Jesus wants us to live. This year we will explore six specific Spiritual Disciplines (we’re calling them “Jesus Habits”) and have opportunities to practice those disciplines in our school and at home as we develop the life habits of Jesus.
We invite you to 'grow along' with us! Come visit our classrooms, meet our teachers, and see what god is doing in the hearts and lives of the students at First Baptist Academy. Contact the school office @ ext 331, to schedule a tour of our facilities or to learn more about the elementary program.
For the Kingdom,
Linda H. Shaw
